I'm Becca - mom to three cute kiddos, professional photographer, chocolate addict, in love with all thing wildflowers, and (most importantly) a sinner saved by grace through faith!
It’s Christmastime, which means we’re having a lot of fun over here making sweet holiday memories. I just love this time of the year. It’s cozy and warm, and I love watching the kids experience the magic of Christmas. The joy it brings them is infectious!
The kids were asking me for some playdough last week, and I decided to have some fun and make them a special *sugar cookie playdough* version. Y’all… I regret it only because my house smelled like Christmas cookies, which made me crave them for the rest of the day!
I love making homemade playdough, because you use simple ingredients, and you can make it fun with different colors, scents or even (in today’s case) sprinkles! Best of all it’s an easy way to involve the kids in the kitchen. We have so much fun cooking and making things together… We talk about the ingredients we use, how much we’re using, and I let them help with pouring and stirring. Simple things like that are fun ways to interact with your kids AND make something for them to play with later. So if you have a tactile play loving kiddo at home, you should try making some sugar cookie playdough this holiday season!

It only takes 7 ingredients and 5 minutes to make some homemade sugar cookie playdough. Perfect for little ones, and it’s great for easy toxin free fun!
Ingredients
UnitsScale
1cup flour
1/2cup salt
2 Tbsp cream of tartar
1 tsp vanilla (I used Mexican vanilla)
1 Tbsp oil
1cup water
Essential Oil (optional, but makes it smell nice! I added 3 drops of a Christmas blend I got from Plant Therapy)
1/2cup sprinkles
Instructions
In a saucepan, mix together all the ingredients over medium/low heat. Add HALF of the sprinkles as the playdough begins to solidify and come together.
Keep mixing until the mixture forms a ball and comes away clean from the sides of the pan.
Remove from the pan and place it on some parchment paper. Knead for a minute or so as you slowly add the rest of the sprinkles to the dough.
Let it cool, then have fun playing!
Store in an airtight container (I use a ziploc baggie).
