I'm Becca - mom to three cute kiddos, professional photographer, chocolate addict, in love with all thing wildflowers, and (most importantly) a sinner saved by grace through faith!
In case you missed it in my last pumpkin post, even though it’s the middle of November we’re still going strong on all things pumpkin! I just love the cozy smells of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, and the warm colors in all the fall decor around my house. And naturally, my kids are just like their mama, and holding tight to fall before we dive head first into Christmas.
So no shame in our pumpkin game over here!
A while ago I shared about the Pumpkin Spice Playdough Sensory Bin I made for the kiddos, and I finally have the chance to sit down and share more about it! We have been LOVING our different bins the past few months, and this one was a big hit, especially for June. She loves playing with playdough, and both kids have fun making things, playing pretend (I can’t tell you how many pumpkin “cookies” I’ve “eaten” haha!), and practicing fine motor skills like cutting, slicing and pinching.
I have lots of sensory bin posts I want to write in the future (they’re especially great for when the weather is too yucky to go outside *ahem* winter *ahem*), so stay tuned for those!
It only takes 6 ingredients and 5 minutes to make some homemade pumpkin spice playdough. Perfect for little ones, and it’s great for easy toxin free fun!
Ingredients
UnitsScale
1cup flour
1/2cup salt
2 Tbsp cream of tartar
1 Tbsp pumpkin pie spice
1 Tbsp oil
1cup water
Food coloring or 1 Tbsp turmeric (optional)
Essential Oil (optional, but makes it smell nice!)
Instructions
In a saucepan, mix together all the ingredients (except the essential oil) over medium/low heat. Add a few drops of food coloring or the turmeric to make the playdough a fun color!
Keep mixing until the mixture forms a ball and comes away clean from the sides of the pan.
Remove from the pan and place it on some parchment paper. Knead for a minute or so. If you’re adding essential oil, knead it in at this point.
Let it cool, then have fun playing!
Store in an airtight container (I use a ziploc baggie).
