I LOVE breakfast. I could eat it all day every day. So I guess it’s no surprise that most of the recipes I post are breakfast ones. They are just so delicious and easy. This one was a huge hit and was even featured on PerfectFit Protein’s Instagram! I loved that it was full of fruit, plant-based protein and superfoods. It kept me full for hours and I felt great the entire morning.
So before I get into the recipe, you may be asking “what’s the difference between a smoothie and a smoothie bowl?”. Well that, my friend, is a valid question. The big difference between the two is the consistency and toppings. A smoothie is liquid enough to drink with a straw and it generally does not come with anything on top. A smoothie bowl is much thicker, eaten with a spoon, and comes with toppings like chia seeds, granola, nuts or pieces of fruit. It’s a fun way to mix up your typical smoothie, and I have found that they are more filling too. They’re so easy to whip up and are great for cooling down after a strenuous workout!
The rule of thumb is always use frozen fruit. They help thicken the smoothie, and add creaminess and natural sweetness to the mixture. Frozen bananas are perfect for these bowls!
