HEY THERE!
I can’t believe June is officially a month (and a day) old.
It’s funny how the last month of pregnancy feels like it will never end, but the month after the baby is born just flies by. Maybe it’s the lack of sleep or the fact that my day is divided up into two hour feeding increments, but whatever it is, the days just seem to pass by in the blink of an eye. And let me tell ya… it’s even more of a blur when you have a newborn AND a toddler to keep alive.
But hey! I’m 32 days into this two-kid-gig and they are both still happy and thriving, so I call that a win.
One of the things I loved doing every month for James’s first year with us was document all the things that happened, skills he learned and pictures I took. I love looking back on them now and reliving all the fun memories that first year held. So (of course) I have to do the same for Junie girl! :)
Read June’s birth story here!
One of the things that I can’t get over is how quickly those tiny fresh newborns grow and change. I already miss that little 8 lb 6 oz baby we welcomed to the family in July. At 3 weeks June was already 9 lbs so who knows how big she is now! She has the brightest blue eyes, squishiest cheeks and all those milkies are giving her the cutest little baby rolls. She has dark hair and *thankfully* hasn’t lost as much as her brother did when he was a month old. Homeboy rocked his male pattern baldness!
June has been SUCH a sweet and easy newborn. She nursed super well from the get-go (and my milk came in with a vengance!) and she sure loves her milkies. She goes about every two hours during the day and gives me longer stretches at night which I greatly appreciate! Since big brother wakes up like clockwork at 7:15 every morning I need as much sleep during the night as I can get.
Just like her big brother, June is SUCH a noisy sleeper. She grunts, sighs, and every other noise a newborn can make as she falls asleep and it just makes me smile. I loved hearing those little sounds when James was tiny, and it’s fun to hear them again. Also I can’t believe such a little thing can make so much noise!
Speaking of noise, June definitely made me jump yesterday because she farted/pooped so loud. She may look cute and feminine, but man can she burp and toot!
One of my favorite things about her getting older is seeing her awake more and more each day. June loves looking around and hearing mama and dada talk to her. She does NOT like being put down, so pretty much every day she ends up in the sling during her awake time so I can get things done and she’s happy. Thanks to that, though, her neck is super strong and she can hold her head up and look around when she’s in the sling. Plus I can’t say no to on-the-go baby snuggles when she’s in there!
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw me begging for advice on how to help James with the transition. It was pretty rough for the first two weeks since he had been out of his routine for so long and then had to figure out life with a little sister, but thankfully things are so much better! Now that life is back to “normal” and he’s gotten to know June, he is the sweetest big brother. James calls for her when he wakes up in the morning, brings her blankets, pacifiers and bows, and tries to play with her all the time. It’s so cute!
Due to COVID we haven’t been able to go on many adventures with Junie, but I hope things will start to get better soon so we can. She’s gone to a few places, and had fun celebrating James’s birthday with pictures, dinner, the splash pad and lots of family at his party. She is a trooper and, even though she hates the carseat, she makes all our family outings even more fun and special.
A fun little thing we got to do this month was have June model for a photography workshop! Ana Brandt was in town teaching a newborn photography class and needed a newborn to model for her. I applied and was emailed later that day to see if I could bring June in. It was so fun watching, since studio photography is so much different that what I do! And of course June was adorable and the sweetest baby ever.
I am soooo ready for the weather to really cool down because for one, I hate summer, but also because I can’t wait to hang out outside with June and James. He loves playing in the backyard, and we all love soaking in some fresh air. I’m mostly ready to be able to go on a walk at 8:30 AM without coming back drenched in sweat.
So right now our days usually consist of playing in the living room, watching The Price is Right and Disney movies, listening to music, naps, and the occasional friend or family member stopping by. It’s been a fairly uneventful month, but also so sweet and full of memories as we’ve gotten to know our newest little family member.
And I can’t end this update without giving Auntie Rachie a shoutout. A week before June was born she moved into an apartment less than a mile from us, and it has been SUCH a blessing. She took James while I was in labor, and has come over to help me out so much since then. We love you Rachie!
Here’s to another month of Junie girl’s life and hopefully staying on time with the updates. ;)
