I'm Becca - mom to three cute kiddos, professional photographer, chocolate addict, in love with all thing wildflowers, and (most importantly) a sinner saved by grace through faith!
A rich and creamy smoothie bowl bursting with your favorite pecan pie flavors without all the guilt! You will love this pecan pie smoothie bowl this holiday season.
If you have been following along here at Happily the Hicks, you may have noticed that I’ve been sharing some of my healthier holiday recipes for the past few Wednesdays. They are the perfect way to enjoy delicious and healthy sides for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner… you know I’m all about moderation and enjoying yourself. The thing I love the most about these recipes is that you don’t even miss the “original” recipe because they are so tasty. And honestly, who doesn’t like to enjoy their food without an upset stomach later?
So this week I decided to stick to the theme of healthier holiday recipes by combining two of my favorite things: pecan pie and smoothie bowls. This is probably not something you would serve at your family Christmas dinner, but it was a fun holiday treat that is perfect for breakfast or a mid-afternoon snack!
I’ve seen other pecan pie smoothie recipes over the years, but something I was never a big fan of in those recipes were the dates. I understand why they used them in their recipes, but I have had such horrible luck with dates that I never want to use them! I can’t ever seem to get them blended down, and end up chewing on chunks of date in my smoothies and smoothie bowls. (If you have any suggestions for blending dates, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate any advice!)
So in my smoothie bowl, instead of dates, I used some Siggi’s yogurt, vanilla protein powder, a frozen banana and ice to make it thick and creamy.
Final product: perfection.
I won’t say it’s a replacement for pecan pie (because I can’t think of anything that can top a warm piece of pecan pie) but it was a perfect healthy alternative. I know it will be a go-to breakfast recipe not only during the holiday season, but also year round. Yes, that’s how good it was!

Ingredients
Scale
For the Smoothie Bowl
1 frozen banana
1/3 cup Siggi’s yogurt
1/4 cup almond milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I used Perfect Fit)
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 Tbsp maple syrup
2 Tbsp chopped pecans
1 cup ice
For the Toppings
2 tsp chia seeds
2 Tbsp chopped pecans
1 Tbsp pumpkin seeds
Optional: almonds, dried cranberries, drizzle of maple syrup or honey
Instructions
In a blender (I used my Ninja single serve cup), blend together all the smoothie bowl ingredients until smooth. If the smoothie bowl is too thick, add a splash of almond milk.
Pour the smoothie into a bowl and place the toppings on top.

Now it’s your turn to talk! Answer one of these questions in the comments below:
How are you keeping your food lean and clean this holiday season?
What is your favorite smoothie bowl?
I don’t know how you come up with your recipes but I am always super impressed. I made your healthy crockpot chicken/vegetable stew the other day and even my husband ate it! (I had to pair it with cheez-its BUT he still ate two huge bowls!) :)
Yum!! That looks so good! I love smoothie bowls, though lately I’ve been sipping ’em in a straw but I have to remember that the bowls help me slow down and really enjoy the yummy flavors!
That sounds delicious!! I use dates to make a chocolate mousse that is delicious. They blend well if you put them in the food processor with some coconut cream :)
Awesome! I hope you like it! I usually add dark cacao, vanilla essence and a spoonful of melted coconut oil to help it set in the fridge. It’s my fave way to make choc mousse :) Also delicious with some cream and strawberries or raspberries when serving!

Oh it definitely does! And I also love the toppings you can put on smoothie bowls, that you can’t add to smoothies.

COCONUT CREAM?! That’s genius. I’m definitely trying that out next time I use dates. Thanks for the help!!
