My Lighthouse

If you have listened to any Christian music radio station lately, I’m sure you’ve heard the song “My Lighthouse” by Rend Collective playing. I remember first hearing it over Christmas break and enjoying the catchy tune, but it wasn’t until lately that I really listened to the words and the message they were sharing.
I know we all struggle with so many things… I for one go through times where God seems silent in my life. I have questions that I can’t answer, I fail time and time again, I have doubts and worries and I constantly fear what tomorrow may bring. We live in a dark world that is full of sin, and after time that can really bring us down.
However, I have recently realized how important it is to keep our eyes focused on Who we are living for- our Lighthouse- instead of our imperfections and the temporal things of this world. I know this is such a simple concept, one we learn about in Sunday school since before we can talk, but it’s one thing to say it and another to actually put it into practice. We need to live for THE day (when Jesus comes back and this world is over) instead of TOday (that is full of selfishness, immorality and plain ‘ole sin).

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another,forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:1-5, 12-17

And remember- He is the light in the darkness, He is the peace in my troubled sea and He will lead us through the storms of our lives.
