HEY THERE!
I’m late, but I finally had time to write out my Me Made May 2024 post! This was my second year to participate, and it’s always so fun to intentionally wear clothes that I’ve made for myself. I ended up repeating a lot of outfits and not wearing quite a few dresses that I thought I would. Between postpartum life and just wanting to wear something I felt confident in, I stuck to a lot of the same clothing items, which I’m sure many can relate to.
I found out a few things about myself this past May:
This Me Made May was so fun, and I truly enjoyed putting together different outfits of items I made every day. It’s so satisfying to look at your clothes and know you MADE that!

Pattern: Syd Tie Top Dress by Syd Graham Patterns
Fabric: Kona Cotton from Carriage House Printery (Felicity Plaid)
This dress pattern is one of my all time favorites! I love the tie top, and how easy it is to modify to make it more nursing friendly. It’s a well written pattern, and simple to put together. I’ve made two, and already have fabric to make another!
Pattern: Pomona Pants by Anna Allen Clothing
Fabric: European Linen from Isee Fabrics
These pants are an all time favorite. I love the fit, I love the length (I shortened it about 4 inches) and I love the color of this linen! I’ve worn these almost once a week lately, that’s how good they are.
Patterns: Top – Luna Tank from Helen’s Closet / Bottoms – Adult Wide Leg Pants from Lowland Kids (discontinued)
Fabric: Bamboo Spandex from Carriage House Printery (Fragole and Sweet Tea Mazy) / Jersey Slub from Isee Fabric / Brussels Washer Linen from Hawthorne Supply Co
These pants are a favorite (hence why I’ve made them three times) because of the wide legs and flattering fit at the waist. I’m sad the pattern has been discontinued!
If you want a flowy, quick tank top to sew up, the Luna Tank is the one for you. It’s simple and the end result is a super cute and fun top for the summer. I love wearing it with wide leg pants, shorts and even jeans!
Pattern: March Top by Helen’s Closet
Fabric: European Linen from Isee Fabric
This is a modified version of the March Top, and I love it so much. I changed the drop shoulders to be a tank top, and used binding to finish the armholes. I also lengthened the slit in the front to make it more nursing friendly! I’ve made two of these tops so far, and they’ve become instant favorites. They’re cute, fun and functional.
Patterns: Adult Boxy Tee from Lowland Kids / Peg Legs from Patterns for Pirates
Fabrics: Cotton Spandex from Millie and Dot
I live in these shirts! I love the loose, boxy fit (especially postpartum), and actually lengthened the top to have a little more coverage with the shorts. The peg leg pattern is also so easy to sew together, and perfect for the cutest lounge set.
Pattern: Sofia Dress from Victory Patterns
Fabric: Rayon Challis from Carriage House Printery (Lil Daisy)
This dress was so intimidating to me, because I had never worked with shirring before. Turns out it’s not near as difficult as I thought it would be. Yes, it’s time consuming, but it’s not hard especially if you draw the lines on beforehand! I shortened the bodice a little to fit my torso better, and the dress turned out so cute. Plus if I slide off a shoulder, I can pull the bodice down to nurse, which is a huge win in my book!
Patterns: Top – Adult Racer Tank from Lowland Kids / Bottoms – Arenite Pants from Sew Liberated
Fabrics: Top – Micromodal Cotton Spandex (discontinued) / Bottoms – Brussels Washer Linen from Hawthorne Supply Co
The racerback tank is one of my favorites. The fit is loose but flattering! The pants were a labor of love, and one of my first times to work with flat felled seams. They’re definitely not perfect (the linen unravelled a ton) but I still love them. The pockets are huge, the rise is just right, and the instructions were detailed and easy to follow!
Patterns: Adult Easy Set from Lowland Kids
Fabrics: Slub Jersey from Isee Fabrics / Micromodal Cotton Spandex (discontinued)
If you’re looking for *the* perfect oversized casual outfit, this is the one for you. I am a big fan of Lowland Kids Patterns, and this adult set is no exception. I did increase the width of the waistband two sizes and it fit perfectly.
Pattern: Ashton Tank from Helen’s Closet
Fabric: European Linen from Isee Fabric
These tanks are still a staple in my wardrobe! I absolutely adore the loose, boxy fit and how quickly they are to make. I’ve made them with both binding and facing, and personally prefer the binding option (less ironing). The cropped length is so so cute with high waisted shorts/pants too! My favorite bottoms to pair them with are the Pomona Pants.
Pattern: Lulu Top from Made for Mermaids
Fabric: Rosy Cheeks Excel ATY Nylon from Surge Fabrics
This top was my first venture into athletic wear, and I am a big fan. The size my measurements put me in was a tad snug, so I plan on making another one size bigger (specifically in the bust area). The instructions were easy to follow, and I love how quickly it all came together. I used clear elastic on the arms, but feel like it could have been fine without it. I’m sure it depends on the structure/weight of the fabric used, though! All in all, I can’t wait to make more.
Pattern: Rally Skirt from Greenstyle
Fabric: Dragonfly Align from Greenstyle
This skort is seriously one of my favorite things I’ve made this year. I love the inner biker shorts, the pockets, the yoga waistband and the cute, flirty skirt. The fit is spot on, and I seriously wear it every time it’s clean! The shorts don’t ride up (even with running) which is a HUGE win for me. The last thing I want is to be pulling my shorts down every few steps.
Pattern: 3r Shorts from Greenstyle
Fabric: Inner – Dragonfly Align from Greenstyle / Outer – Stretch Boardshort from Carriage House Printery (Sunset Scallop)
Once again I am a huge fan because the inner biker shorts don’t ride up. 10/10, y’all! I love the fun touch the boardshort adds to the pattern, and the whole fit is so comfy and cute. The outer shorts do ride up as I walk, but I think if I tack them down at the crotch that will fix the problem – tbd. Besides that I love these shorts!
Pattern: Adult Breezy Shorts from Lowland Kids
Fabric: Slub Jersey from Isee Fabric
If you’re looking for the perfect lounging shorts, these are for you! They’re loose, flowy and oh so comfy. I made these a size bigger than my measurements and actually love how they fit. They’re my go to when I’m wanting a casual but cute look, especially for hanging out around the house.
And well, there you have it! Me Made May 2024 if officially wrapped up. Here’s to another year of slow sewing and making clothes I love to wear!

Hello Becca,
I have been following your blog since you only had your son. So sweet to see how your family has grown!
How did you learn how to sew?
Any tips for beginners and which Sewing machine would you recommend?
Hi Lola!
Thank you so much for your sweet comment :) I actually learned how to sew when I was young (my mom taught me) but I picked it back up in 2020 when I began sewing bows for my shop. From there I slowly began learning about sewing clothing, and once I got the hang of it I never looked back! Lots of patterns out there are very detailed and walk you through everything you need to know to sew that item, and many have videos or sew alongs you can follow as well. I highly recommend Lowland Kids for knit (stretchy) patterns and Little Lizard King for woven (non stretchy) patterns.
I absolutely LOVE my sewing machine! It’s a Husqvarna Jade 20. I’ve looked into upgrading a couple of times, but always fall back on this one because I love it so much. Here’s my affiliate link: https://amzn.to/3Ldbux4
I hope that helps :)
