HEY THERE!
I’ve been putting off writing this post for a long time, because I’m still in denial that my baby is growing up! Without even realizing it, June has become a crazy, goofy, toddling little girl and I can’t help but wonder where that sleepy newborn I held just a year ago went. But I know I’ll love having this post to look back on when she’s older, so here I am… writing her twelve month update 6 weeks late. Whoops.
Since June turned one, she has changed SO MUCH. Those two top teeth *finally* popped through, she started walking and never looked back, has been sleeping through the night like a champ, is almost fully weaned (I’m only nursing her twice a day now) and has learned how to throw little temper tantrums, which has been a bLaSt. She excitedly waves her hands and squeals when she sees Isaac come home, wants to play with all of James’s toys with him (much to his chagrin), gets into trouble daily and has shown a huge interest in coloring – something big brother never did. June was the flower girl in my sister’s wedding, celebrated James turning THREE and has just been a crazy ball of cuteness that we absolutely adore.
BUT. We’re here to talk about her twelfth month of life, so here goes. Let’s see if I can remember everything lol
This month we celebrated Father’s Day and the amazing dada James and June have. Isaac is seriously the best husband and father, and I am so thankful and blessed to raise a family with him.
We loaded up the car and headed to Canyon Lake this month for a long weekend with my family. It was one of my favorite trips with the Campbells! We had a blast with the kids on a pontoon, hanging out at Greune and going to a beach area by the lake. We played games, ate delicious food, laughed (and cried), took lots of pictures and just had a great time catching up with everyone. I look forward to our family vacations every year, and they just get sweeter as we add more cousins to the mix!
This month was busy with playdates, library visits and little adventures around town. It’s fun to see June interact with and play with other kids more as she gets older! Sometimes I watch them together and think about how it will be in 5, 10 and 15 years… It’s such a joy and privilege to watch my kiddos grow up. Even though it also makes me oh so sad.
We went on a fun family adventure to Waxahachie this month to take June’s birthday pictures at a peach orchard. I had this vision since last summer when I was pregnant with her, and it was such a surreal moment to be there in the orchard with my little one year old in the outfit I made her. I hope to go back again next year and actually do the Pick Your Own peach experience because that would be so fun!!
July was hectic to say the least. We started the month with our annual 4th of July party, which I look forward to every year! It’s all about good food and good friends, and the kids have a blast playing together!
We ended June’s twelfth month with a Peach Party for the one year old, and goodness. I was so happy with how it turned out. I plan on doing a full post with all the details *eventually*. So many people came to love on Junie, and it was so sweet. I coudln’t have asked for a better way to celebrate our little princess’s first birthday!
For her birthday present, we got June a play kitchen from Ikea. Y’all… it’s so cute and the kids love it so much! I love seeing them play there together, and look forward to all the yummy “food” they cook up in the kitchen.
This month June got SO CLOSE to fully walking! She got to about 75% of the time, but was still so wobbly that she didn’t walk for long periods of time. The hardest part about her walking is that now I need to remember to put shoes on her when we go out haha!
She has become very vocal and lets her feelings be known. June still isn’t saying words, but she can sign a few things and will point at stuff she wants. When she’s teething she gets super grumpy and we don’t see her smile for a few days, but other than that she’s usually really happy and smiley like always!
Eating has been a challenge for sure. June is VERY picky and snubs her nose at about 90% of what I give her. Usually all it takes is getting her to at least try something for her to realize she likes it, but that can be hard sometimes. Basically June hates meat and loves carbs and sugar. I have to admit… I totally feel her. I’m a carb monster too!
June has slowed down with her growing, and was in the lower half of the percentiles at her one year checkup. She is still in 6-9m size clothes (except for her big cloth booty!) and I know will start to lose more of that baby fat the more she walks around. I’m gonna miss her little chunky thighs!
The biggest change for her this month was I finally caved and sleep trained her. I was getting up 2-3 times a night to nurse her and it was really taking a toll. It took two veryyyy tough nights, but once we got through that, she’s been a champ. Y’all…. I have my nights back after about two years of not sleeping and it’s ah-ma-zing. We called it June’s birthday present to us!
One of her favorite things to do this month was clap! She loved the song “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and would just clap clap clap the whole time. She’s shown a lot of interest in music, and will do the occasional dance along with it. She still isn’t really into TV, and would much rather play with toys, flip through books and annoy her brother instead haha!
June’s hair is *just* long and thick enough to do a little ponytail and I am HERE. FOR IT. She looks so adorable with the hair sticking straight up and a little bow clipped in. I can’t wait for it to get longer so I can do more cute things with it! I loved fixing my little sisters’ hair growing up, and it will be even more fun to do it to my daughter.
Well… gosh I can’t believe it. This is my last monthly post for June. I have no idea where the past 12 months went, but I blinked and now she’s HUGE. I seriously can’t imagine our family without her, or remember what it was like before she was here. June has made everything so much sweeter, and I love her oh so much. I can’t wait to see the spunky, firecracker little girl she’s going to become.
Oh and say a little prayer for us if you think about it. I already know June is gonna be a handful as she gets older! ;)
