HEY THERE!
When the weather starts cooling down and leaves begin changing color, all I want to do is find an excuse to enjoy it. Cue my list of my favorite fall dates!
After a relentless summer of Texas heat, it’s always a (literal) breath of cool air when fall finally arrives. Yes, I know it’s been “fall” for a few weeks now, but it’s still been in the 90s here, and I’m so tired of it. Thankfully, it looks like cooler weather is on its way, which means it’s time to fit all my fun fall dates in before winter hits.
Isaac and I began dating in October 2010, so fall is a special time for me. It brings me back to our first date, our first kiss and the first memories we made together. We were so young, but it’s been amazing to see our relationship grow and mature as we have discovered who we are as individuals and as a couple. I’m so thankful that God brought us together! Over the years we’ve gone on countless dates (especially this time of the year), and I’ve narrowed the list down to my top five fall dates just for you.
Visit a pumpkin patch
Isaac and I have been doing this for years, and it’s one of my favorite fall traditions. I like to buy some pumpkins for decoration, and we always take our pumpkin patch picture. It’s not fall without one!
Go on a hike
There’s no better way to explore the area around you than going on a hike! When we want to go somewhere nearby, we love hiking at the Cedar Ridge Preserve, and our hike this past weekend on our camping trip was so much fun. Don’t live near a place to go hiking? Then hit up a walking path and enjoy an evening stroll.
Carve a pumpkin
I’ve actually never done this with Isaac, but I love getting together with some of my friends for a fun girls night to carve pumpkins and do all things white girl. Chick flicks, pumpkin candles and carving? Yes, please!
Segway Tour
This was one of my favorite dates with Isaac! I surprised him with a Segway tour around Grapevine Lake a few years ago and it was so much fun. I actually reserved our tour using Groupon, which made it way more affordable, especially for a then college student on a budget. You should check out your local Groupons to see what’s in your area. It’s a fun way to do something new for a bargain.
Go to an outdoor concert
Two of Isaac’s cousins are or have been in bands, and we love supporting them when we can. Last year we went to an outdoor concert to see Seryn in Denton, and it was a blast! We brought Lillie with us, and loved getting to spend some time in the beautiful weather. (If you haven’t heard of Seryn or Shane Smith & the Saints, then check them out! They’re amazing, y’all).
Go to a high school football game or cross country meet
Having siblings who are still in high school makes this even more fun! I love seeing my brother and sister march during the half time show, and hearing all my favorite songs played by the drum line. As for the football game, well… I try to watch it, but really it’s more about seeing old teachers and family friends than watching the game.
And cross country races are still my absolute favorite. I always look forward to cheering on my siblings, and getting to catch up with them after their race. And, of course, we bring Lillie with us every time!
Visit the State Fair
I’ll take any excuse to stuff my face with fried foods, and the Texas State Fair hasn’t let me down yet! Last year was my first time to go with Isaac and we had so much fun trying different foods, walking around the fairgrounds, checking out the livestock and finding all the free samples we could get. We just went this past Saturday and it was perfect!

Oh, I love this list! Our oldest daughter is now a Freshman, so we’re enjoying going to high school football games again :). Nothing ushers in fall like being in the stands at a good football game!
I agree!! I was so sad that we weren’t able to make it to one of my siblings’ football games this year. Nothing quite beats the smell of popcorn, stadium stands and hot chocolate on a Friday night.
Love these simple and easy ideas! Thanks for sharing, i think we are planning a pumpkin patch double date next weekend! xoxo
How fun!! Pumpkin patch dates are my favorite!
Love this list! We do most of these as well! We weren’t able to make it to the State Fair though this year which is a bummer (we live near Fort Hood, so it’s about a 2.5 hour drive). I love going to all the fall festivals that happen around this time of year =)
We barely made it, haha! And fall festivals are so much fun. I especially love when they involve lots of candy and food!
One of our favorite things to do in the Fall is hike, because it’s not soooo hot!
YES! I’m over here like “it’s 85 out? Gotta break out the hiking boots and jacket!”.
We have done the state fair, now on our list is a pumpkin patch and a corn maze!! I love fall!
Ooh corn mazes are so fun! Have fun :)
What fantastic ideas! My hubby and I are always looking for new dates!
Thank you!! I love that you and your husband still make time for dating. That’s awesome:)
Loving these ideas! I remember one of our very first dates was carving pumpkins together! :)
Aww that’s so sweet!! I hope to carve some pumpkins this weekend!
These are great ideas! I don’t have a SO but these are great friend dates too! :)
I agree!! Not gonna lie, I’ve done almost all those things with friends too, especially before my hubby and I got married.
I love the idea of going to a pumpkin patch! I used to go every year in high school but haven’t been back in ages, hope to change that this year!
I do too! Pumpkin patches are so much fun. :)
These are such great ideas! My husband and I are actually looking for ways to have fun on a budget so we can save for the holiday season. Love your ideas and thank you for sharing!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the list! Thanks for stopping by. :)
Love these ideas! Can’t wait to carve pumpkins!
Me too!! I just need to decide what to carve on mine now.
Aw I love these ideas. It can be so hard sometimes to come up with ideas for date nights. I love the pumpkin patch idea!! We have to do that this year!
Yes!! Pumpkin patches are my favorite. You should definitely visit one this year.
These are all some of our fav things. We love to curl up with a scary movie and carve a pumpkin!
Ooh movie nights are so much fun, except I can’t watch scary movies! I can’t sleep afterwards haha.
Love these ideas. My favorite is picking apples!
I wish we could pick apples here!! I told my hubby we have to go north someday to visit an apple orchard.
This is a great list! I’m always looking for inexpensive dates.
Me too, girl! Sometimes I feel like the inexpensive dates are the ones I enjoy the most!
Fall is ABSOLUTELY the best. I spent the last 13 year sin Florida, I feel ya on the 90 degree “autumn” weather. lol. We finally moved to Colorado though and I’m getting my first REAL fall in years and its GLORIOUS! Also, cheap dates are the best!
I AM SO JEALOUS. Like seriously, fall in Colorado must be absolutely gorgeous! Here, we’re getting up to 87 this week- yuck! Enjoy the cool weather and changing leaves for me. :)
Great ideas! I always head to the apple orchard or cider mill in the fall (in fact I think I’ve been about 6 times). Carving pumpkins is great as well! :) I’ve got to get on that soon!
I’ve always wanted to go to an apple orchard, but they don’t have any around here! I’m still trying to convince my hubby to take me someday. (fingers crossed ;) )
Great ideas. Thank you for sharing them. I’ve shared this post around to spread the date night ideas.
Thanks for sharing, Crystal! :) Glad you enjoyed the list!
My favorite fall dates are haunted hayride and fall hike!
Hayrides are so much fun! We went on one a few years ago. :)
A hike sounds perfect right now. And the temps are slowly going down here in San Antonio! I want to go pick fruit too!
Doesn’t it?! I wish I could hike all the time. And I’m sure it’s getting gorgeous in San Antonio! Now if only the weather FINALLY cooled down and I can actually feel like it’s fall haha.
GIRL. You have GOT to go. It’s awesome, and you have to try at least ONE of the finalists for the year. It’s always worth it!
Sounds like a blast! I’m trying to convince my hubby to carve pumpkins with me this weekend!
Fall is when my husband and I met and also when we were married. It hold so a special place in my heart! We are in the mist of planning an anniversary trip including a cavern tour, which I am more than thrilled about!
Oooh that sounds like so much fun! And I’m glad you understand how much I love fall. It brings back so many sweet memories of when our relationship was just beginning.
Such great ideas!! I need to visit a pumpkin patch. The fair is always a good idea.
Thanks Jessica! I love pumpkin patches, and the fair is something I love to do. Next year I need to go on Thrifty Thursday like you did!
