HEY THERE!
Can you believe that Christmas is less than a week away? Holy moly this Christmas season has been flying by for us! Between all the holiday festivities, shooting two weddings and taking care of an energetic 16 month old, the days have been going by in a blur. But you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way! It’s been an amazing couple of weeks and this year has been even more special because we’ve gotten to experience the beauty of Christmas through the eyes of James. He “ooooh”s and “aaaah”s every time we pass Christmas lights, and it’s the cutest thing ever. Especially when it came from the backseat of the car as we drove around looking at houses the other night.
One of my favorite parts about Christmas is decorating the house. I always looked forward to it when I was a little girl, and got giddy pulling the boxes down from the attic. My mom and I would sing along to our favorite Christmas songs as we decked out the house, and they are some of my favorite memories from growing up.
Now that we are in our own house it’s been fun to figure out my “style”. It’s definitely evolved over the years and this year I absolutely love how everything came together. It’s clean, simple and cozy. Full of deep reds, bright whites, and lots of flowers. So of course I had to share it with y’all! My goal was “Christmas decor made easy” and (not to toot my own horn) but I think I nailed it. ;)
Decorating can be very overwhelming. Trust me, I still get a little nervous before decking out the house for the different seasons. This year when I decorated for fall I decided that “less is more” and I loved it so much I tried to do the same with my Christmas decor. To help you out, I thought I’d share some things I kept in mind while decorating!
If you need an easy way to fill a space with some festivity, garlands are your way to go! They are super simple and look SO good. I like adding lights in with my garland for a little extra coziness and it really brightens the space up. This year I used lit garland on top of the entertainment center and on our entryway table. I also used some garland on top of the window pane above the fireplace and the coffee bar. I think next year I’ll add Christmas lights to those two spaces to make it extra festive!
I have fun with the two letter boards in our house and *try* to change them out seasonally and with the holidays. Sometimes I do better than others haha! Our big letter board always has an Office quote on it and the little one is more for fun. I like how cute they are and it’s so easy to change them out.
Pro tip: to organize your letters, buy a plastic organizer (<- affiliate link) with little compartments to organize your letters alphabetically. It makes it SO MUCH quicker to change out your letter board!
In the past I had a more eclectic look to my Christmas decorations! It was more of a mixture of decorations I got in college, stuff my mom gave me, and things I bought the first few years of marriage. Over the years I’ve slowly narrowed down what colors I wanted to embrace in my Christmas decor, and this year I feel like it’s finally coming together! I have a lot of deep, cranberry red and crisp bright whites. Between the pillows on the couch, stockings, signs and other little decorations around the house, the colors really look great together! I also have a lot of green (of course) and browns/golds thrown in there. I love how warm and cozy the reds are, and I’m a sucker for cranberries this time of year so it works really well haha!
Just like in my fall decor, I tried to keep things as uncluttered as possible. I like how simple the entertainment center looks, and the mantle is one of my favorite spots with just the few decorations I have on it. Instead of crowding together all the decorations, or trying to fill every nook and cranny, I left empty spaces and stuck to just a few flowers here and there to keep things clutter-free and simple.
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE Christmas scents. They make me so happy and make it feel more like the holidays to me. This year I bought the Christmas Pine essential oil from Plant Therapy and y’all… It smells like a Christmas tree farm! I diffuse about 4-5 drops in my living room and it’s perfect to get that pine tree smell without having to light a candle. You can also add in a few drops of Plant Therapy’s Germ Fighter to help ward off any sickness that tends to pop up this time of year.
And there you have it! Christmas decor made easy :)
