HEY THERE!
Today’s post is long overdue! I’ve meant to share all the details of Frances’s first birthday party for months, and have never found the time to do so until now. Better late than never, right? Anyways, when I first found out I was pregnant I knew I wanted the nursery theme to be bumblebees. And naturally that meant a Bumblebee Birthday Party when she turned one.
I love using decorations from the nursery for the party because not only does it save money, but it makes it a little more sentimental to me. My goal when throwing first birthdays is to keep the budget as low as possible while still having a cute and put together party. There are lots of handmade touches, a balloon arch (of course), plenty of food and even a craft for the kids to do.

Let’s start with the food! I love having a bunch of different options for guests to eat. I tried to keep it as “bee” themed as possible with honey foods, a bee snack mix and Honey Buttercream cupcakes. It was all SO good.
Snack Items: Honey Mustard Pretzel Chips, crackers, Honey Bears, Veggie Straws, Apple Straws, Puffs, Honey Bee Snack Mix, sourdough bread with honey to drizzle
Fruit/Veggies: Strawberries, oranges, grapes, blueberries, cucumbers, carrots and homemade hummus
Sandwiches: ham and cheddar, turkey and swiss all on homemade french loaf
Drinks: Cold brew with syrup and milk/heavy cream, homemade lemonade, sweet tea
Honey Bee Snack Mix: Honeycomb cereal, Honey Graham cereal, yogurt covered pretzels, chocolate chips
In all honesty I kept things fairly simple with decorations. I left up all our spring things that were already in the living area, and added in some pictures, posters and figurines from Fran’s nursery. I also made a super adorable Happy Birthday banner using scraps from all the quilts my mom made for the girls. It was the sweetest handmade touch to the party!
One of the easiest ways to make a party look put together are florals. They add a freshness to the room, as well as color and dimension. I stuck to white and yellow to keep with the bumblebee party theme, and I think it turned out perfect.
I also bought some vinyl tablecloths, bee placemats and a table runner from Hobby Lobby to add to the bumblebee theme. They fit in perfectly, and added a pop of color that I loved.
And no Becca birthday party is complete without a balloon arch. I love how it adds some extra oomph to the decor and it’s a statement piece in and of itself. I finally bought a balloon pump and y’all… it was a game changer. 10/10 recommend.
One of my favorite decorations in the whole party was James’s painting he made for Frances. He spent so much time making sure every detail was perfect for her. I have it hanging in her nursery now and it makes me smile every time I look at it.
It was such a fun party, and I am still in denial that my little baby is so big. We had such a fun time celebrating our Baby Bee, and it filled my soul seeing all these people celebrating our favorite Frances Anne.
We had a decorate your own sunnies table for the kids, which was a huge hit! I actually used leftover supplies from Ellie’s party and only had to buy some little flower and bee charms to go with the theme. Shop the supplies here.
