HEY THERE!
So I’ve had to come to terms with something the past few years- as Americans, we live a very go-go-go lifestyle. It’s become a part of our culture… when we’re not at work, we’re either with friends, going here or there, at soccer/baseball/softball/fill-in-with-your-sport practice and games, or simply getting things done around the home. And I don’t know about you, but it can get exhausting and overwhelming sometimes. And important things like my nutrition, keeping the house clean, and my overall sanity can go down the drain.
That is why I thought it would be the perfect time to share 5 ways to manage being a woman on the go, because let’s be honest… We all need some help! I am nearing the end of the school year, which means my workload is bigger than ever. And that, along with my photography and LipSense businesses, has me working from the minute I wake up to the minute I go to sleep. So the necessity for some simple ways to keep me sane is an understatement!
These management tools won’t make everything rainbows and butterflies, but they should help you stay organized and on top of things, even when life gets crazy.
Y’all, I don’t know how I got remembered anything before I started using Google Calendar. I’ll have people come up and ask me how I am able to get everything done that I need to get done, and my answer has always been “Google Calendar”. I’ve gotten into the habit of immediately entering in a photo shoot session, reminders to do things, and all of our social events before life gets crazy and I forget completely about them. It’s seriously the only reason I am able to stay on top of our busy schedule, and not miss out on something important.
I also like that I can set alarms on each event to remind me of them before they happen, and that it is SO easy to get to. I can access it on my phone or computer, and all my different email accounts sync together on one calendar. A little trick I’ve learned is to change the color of an event based on what business it pertains to. That way I can just glance at my calendar and see immediately if I have a photoshoot, LipSense meet up, personal business or fitness event simply based on the color. Awesome, right? If you don’t use Google Calendar yet, then I highly recommend you do. It’s a life saver, y’all!
I will never tire of stressing the importance of meal prep. It is a game changer, and something I will continue to do as long as I can. It’s the key to eating healthy meals throughout the week, and it keeps you from stressing about what you are going to eat every day. And, bonus, it has helped us save money on groceries, because I no longer buy more food than I need for our meals that week! Interested in reading more about meal prep? Check out this post and this post. : )
So this can go towards many things in life, but I like to especially apply it to household work and any other thing that I dislike doing. I have to be real with y’all… I love a clean house, but I don’t like having to clean it. I find so much more joy and fulfillment in other things that I could be doing instead of cleaning, so I usually opt for those things rather than the work I should accomplish.
I mean… let’s be honest with ourselves. That episode of Gilmore Girls is way more interesting than sweeping and mopping. Amiright?
So rather than putting my chores off all week till Sunday (when I’m busy enough already), I have decided to divide and conquer instead. This means that each day I do one little thing that will take me 10-15 minutes to do. It cuts down on what I need to get done on Sundays, I don’t take out too much time in my day to get things done, and I never have to suffer through a super messy apartment. Win, win, win y’all!
I also cannot live without my to-do lists. ‘Nuff said.
Okay so this may not be a “way to manage life” per say, but it’s SO important for staying sane throughout the week. I can tell a definite difference in my attitude and overall stamina throughout the day if I worked out that morning. When you get your heart rate up, your metabolism is stimulated, your body wakes up, and you don’t have to worry about working out for the rest of the day. Also, when you start your day with a good sweat session, you are more likely to stick to eating healthy and be more active throughout your day. Don’t believe me? Check out this post to read more about the benefits of working out!
I LOVE this way to manage life, because it involves one of my favorite things- food. YUM. I don’t know about you, but I live for my snacks. One of the ways to avoid overeating at meals, or having a low blood sugar crash is keeping healthy snacks with me wherever I go (yes, I’m that person). It’s also great to have snack bars at the house that I can grab and go if I’m running late somewhere, or if I know I’ll be out for a while.
One of my favorite snacks to keep on hand is KiZe bars. They are made in Oklahoma City, OK and my oh my are they delicious. I tried my first bar at a Barre and Bites event in January, and I’ve been hooked ever since. KiZe bars are gluten free, non-GMO and all natural raw energy bars. They come in a variety of flavors (my favorites are Cookie Dough and Peanut Butter), with different butters as the binding ingredient in the bars. They are great options for a healthy snack, or a tasty pre or post workout meal. You better believe I bring these on road trips as well!
Something else I love about this company is that they give back to charity. They donate a percentage of every purchase to give to those in need. The passion KiZe Concepts has for the people they serve, and the community they live in is inspiring, and I love how they share that passion in everything they do.
You can find KiZe bars online, on Amazon, or at your local Whole Foods!
Now it’s your turn to talk! Answer one of these questions in the comments below:

Glad it helped, Suzanne! You and your littles are SO cute <3
Awesome tips! So key to have snacks and water on hand!
I agree!! I can’t go anywhere without a snack and water haha
Yes yes yes!! I am on the go to and don’t think I could survive without my calendar. Our Google calendars look eerily similar with all the colors and events. haha.
There are some amazing flavors of Kize bars. I must try them.
Girl, that’s the life of a person in education!! It never ends. And you should! I think you’d LOVE the cookie dough one!
Such great tips!! My planner is definitely my life saver for keeping my life together. I can’t live without it! I haven’t heard of Kize bars, I’ll have to track ’em down and try ’em!
Yes! Planners are lifesavers. And KiZe bars are SO good… You should definitely give them a try.
The hardest thing for me is working out first thing, but you’re so right about starting the day off right and being more likely to stay on track.
Girl, it’s been SO hard for me as well, but with summer coming soon I have a little more motivation! It helps to set out your workout clothes the night before so you don’t have to dig around in the wee hours of the morning. :)
I am all about these tactics to manage life!! Never heard of Kize bars. Will have to check them out!!
You will LOVE KiZe bars! I have never liked a snack bar as much as I love these. They are DELICIOUS.
My planner, lists, meal prep and snacks for sure! This weekend I am going to make my own granola bars so we’ll see how they turn out :)
Ooooh yum! Will you be sharing the recipe?
Great tips! I love “to do” list too. Mine is electronic with Wunderlist. :)
Oooh an electronic to do list sounds awesome! I’ll have to check that out!
These look great! Yes, meal prep makes a big difference!
Glad you enjoyed the post! And yay for meal prep!
To-do lists are my life saver! :)
AMEN! I love starting my day off with making my to-do list so I know what I need to get done that day.
I really want to try those energy bars. They look so tasty. I want to try working out in the morning. I usually start my day with a quick stretch
You should! They are SO yummy, and I love how filling (yet healthy) they are. And working out in the morning is tough to get used to (especially if you’re not a morning person), but you will feel better the rest of the day!
The kize bars look yummy! I need to try these out!
You should, Stephanie! They are so so good. :)
My google calendar is my life! Those bars look good, I’ll have to try them!
Girl, isn’t Google Calendar AMAZING?! Such a life saver!
Loved this post- I so needed it! I posted something on a similar topic the other day, but there were a few things you’ve written about that I had never really considered… I really struggle to keep track of my finances too as I feel like I don’t have the time to sit down and go through it all! I’ve recently gone for getting the fortnightly graze boxes though, which has been great as they really fuel me through the day when I don’t have time to sit down for a proper snack/meal.
Girl, finances are a totally different story! My hubby and I like to use Mint (an app on our phone that’s also compatible on a laptop) to keep track of everything. It’s very convenient and easy to use!
And I used to subscribe to Graze… Their flapjacks are the BOMB. :D
My calendar is my ride or die…I live, work, eat, breathe, sleep, and sneeze by it!
Coming Up Roses
hahahah you crack me up Erica! And I know exactly what you mean. I would forget EVERYTHING if it weren’t for my calendar!
