HEY THERE!
Welp it’s official. The bump is here to stay and I’ve had to go through my wardrobe to figure out what fits and what doesn’t. Not only has my belly gotten bigger, but my hips have already started widening, and because of that, all pre-pregnancy shorts and pants are now out of the question. Whomp whomp! (Although I have to admit… Having a very valid reason for going shopping with one of my best friends was quite nice hehe.)
And you know… at first I was excited.
FINALLY my baby bump was showing and I didn’t simply look like I just had a really big Thanksgiving dinner for lunch. But then reality set in and I started noticing how my favorite clothes didn’t seem fit me right anymore. My leggings were getting uncomfortable. My shirts were stretching too tight in all the wrong places. And none of my shorts would pull up past my thighs. I always thought I would be okay with all the changes that happen during pregnancy, but with the combination of hormones and having to store an entire tub full of clothes in the back of my closet, I lost it. I wasn’t prepared for all theses changes. I wasn’t ready to see my face round out as I gained weight, or see my arms bigger than I’ve ever seen them before. Losing “control” over how my body looks was harder than I thought it would be.
And I was so embarrassed and upset with myself with all those thoughts running through my head.
But thank goodness for my dear husband! Isaac is so good at saying exactly what I need to hear, and helping keep my head on straight. I seriously don’t know what I’d do without him, and having him remind me that my body was changing because I’m bringing our CHILD into the world bought me back down to earth. He is so right! All these changes are happening because of the tiny little miracle growing inside me.
Yes, I’ve gained weight. Yes, my old clothes don’t fit right anymore. And yes, my self-confidence is at a low right now. But this is only temporary, and will end in SUCH joy! It’s all so. worth. it.
So for other mamas out there who are struggling to find outfits to fit their changing body, I decided to share some of my favorite second trimester outfits with you! Over the past few weeks I’ve gone through my closet and found the styles that are flattering to my growing belly, and comfortable enough to wear all day. Also, with the beautiful spring weather here to stay, I definitely got excited about the florals and bright colors of the season. : )
Side note, a LOT of the pieces I wear nowadays are LuLaRoe because 1. They are oh so comfy, and 2. They are PERFECT to accommodate a growing belly, especially if you size up a bit! #yourewelcome
This is probably my all time favorite outfit currently. I first tried on the Madison skirt soon after I found out I was pregnant and quickly fell in love. It’s comfy, hits at the waist so there’s no pressure on the growing belly from the elastic band, and y’all… IT HAS POCKETS. #sold
The tank top is from Old Navy and I’m in love! It has more of a muscle tank fit (which is my favorite) and is perfect for pairing with skirts, shorts or even jeans. Also, it’s a bit longer than some of the tanks you tend to find nowadays, which is a must for me. I have never been a fan of the shirts that hit right at the hips!
My favorite way to wear a tank or shirt with a Madison skirt is knotted on one side. It adds an extra bit of detail and looks super cute! I probably wear a variation of this outfit about 2-3 times a week because it’s so amazing.
I’ll be honest with you… I have never been a fan of bodycon dresses before, but when you’re pregnant it’s so fun to show off the bump in a tighter fitting dress. This is Isaac’s favorite, and he always comments on how good I look when I wear one of my Julia dresses! It’s super flattering on pregnant women who want to give their bump a little lovin’ and it is a fun piece to layer with a cardigan or kimono. You can also pair it with a Madison or Maxi skirt for some layering that’s really cute!
The Gigi is a tighter fitting shirt with sleeves that hit above the elbow. Honestly, it’s basically the top half of a Julia dress, which is probably why I like it so much! I sized up 2 sizes on this Gigi because I wanted to make sure it would fit over my growing bump in the coming months.
The Maxi skirt is oh so soft and flowy, and looks SUPER cute when it’s knotted at the bottom off to one side. That way you can show off your cute sandals and summer pedicure. ; ) This skirt is still a a size too big for me, but once again I got a bigger than normal size, because I know I’ll probably live in this skirt once my bump starts getting bigger.
You can wear the Gigi and Maxi skirt combo a variety of ways: shirt tucked in, shirt knotted on top or even shirt pulled down over the skirt! It’s up to you on how you style it, and basically boils down to you doing whatever feels most comfortable.
This is another one of my go-to outfits because it looks cute and feels amazing. I fell in love with LuLaRoe the first time I tried on a pair of their leggings, and thankfully I can still fit in most of the ones I own (some stretch more than others). These black leggings are my favorite, and I wear them ALL the time. The patterned ones are cute and all, but you just can’t beat a pair of classic black leggings. ; )
I sized up two sizes in my Perfect T because I prefer the flowy, longer fits rather than a tighter and shorter one. Also, hellooo 3rd trimester-friendly shirt! And one of these shirts paired with a cute Shirley is all you need for a stylish and oh so adorable outfit that you’ll feel amazing in!
So this will probably be one of my favorite spring outfits during my pregnancy because it’s just so easy and effortless! After none of my normal shorts fit over my thighs I decided it was time to invest in some maternity shorts that I could wear for the rest of my pregnancy. I found these cute blue jean ones at Motherhood Maternity and liked that the length wasn’t too short (like wayyy too many shorts are!). Also the full belly band is like my best friend right now, so these shorts are, for lack of a better word, dreamy.
Best of all, they go SO well with a bunch of different shirts like this adorable tank top I found at Old Navy. It’s not maternity, and I know it won’t fit over a giant 3rd trimester belly, but it’s perfect for this trimester and I’m definitely going to wear it as much as I can because I love it so much.
And (since no outfit is complete without a little LuLa magic thrown in there, hehe) I paired the tank and shorts with my pink lace Joy and oh my goodness. It was like a match made in heaven! Florals, pretty colors and flowy fabrics… I mean, what more do you need in an outfit??
So there you have it! My favorite second trimester outfits in all their baby bump glory. : )
