HEY THERE!
In case you missed it, it’s officially summertime!… even though it’s felt like summer here in Texas for the past month. So far, this has been my favorite summer in years, mostly because I get to spend it with Isaac. He makes everything more fun! I’ve also enjoyed hanging out with friends, going to the pool and, most recently, moving to a new apartment (which I’ll write about in a post soon!). I have kept very busy, between summer school, working on the blog and painting for my Etsy shop (check out my giveaway here!), and I hope to continue finding things to do. I love feeling productive and getting things done!
But, something I really want to focus on this summer is spending time away from work. I want to have fun, grow friendships and make memories. Working and being productive is great, but memories will last forever and they are worth so much more! So I decided to come up with 10 things to do this summer, which include stepping away from technology, spending time with friends and family and are all pretty affordable options. I plan on doing most, if not all, of these things, and I can’t wait to share the adventures we go on with y’all.
1. Go to the beach
I can’t wait for our quick trip to Florida for our anniversary! We are leaving in a little less than a month, and I’m pumped. We’re using AirBnB, which cut our costs tremendously. So see? A trip to the beach doesn’t have to be pricey!
2. Visit somewhere new
This could be a town you’ve wanted to visit, a restaurant down the street or even a new state or country. We are looking forward to our mission trip to Romania and seeing a completely new continent, country and culture.
3. Buy some produce at your local farmer’s market
One of my favorite places to go during the spring, summer and fall months is the farmer’s market. They are just about everywhere, and it’s so easy to find local produce that fits within your budget. I love being able to shopping locally and enjoying fresh, farm grown produce. There’s just nothing quite like it!
4. Have a movie night with friends
I love movie nights, and hanging out with friends makes it even better. It would be so much fun to pick a movie that no one has watched before, pop a ton of popcorn and make a popcorn bar, get cozy and enjoy the movie. Those kinds of nights are the best!
5. Cannon ball competition at the pool
I don’t know if this is just the kid in me coming out, but it would be so fun to play around like we’re little again. I think it would be funny to make score cards and judge each other. I can just see us now, making fools of ourselves and having a blast.
6. Go bowling
Bowling is so much fun, and my family goes a little crazy when we bowl together. We laugh a lot, act silly and get a little crazy, but I love it. We haven’t gone bowling in a while, and I think it would be the perfect thing to do this summer with friends or family.
7. Have a picnic at the lake
Because who doesn’t like picnics at the lake? ‘Nuff said.
8. Catch fireflies
This is so nostalgic for me! I remember catching fireflies in mason jars when I was little and it was one of the things I looked forward to the most about summer. Matt and Brittany told us about a park nearby that had a ton of fireflies, and I plan on going out there soon to see them for ourselves!
9. Go on an evening walk
There is a park near our apartment that Isaac and I love running in, and I think we should go on a walk there one evening after dinner. We’ll slather on some OFF, grab a leash for Lillie and strap on our shoes to get some exercise and enjoy the summer sunset.
10. Make homemade ice cream
When I think “summer” one of the first things that comes to mind is homemade ice cream. Every summer I would beg my mom to make some. My favorite was peach ice cream, because it reminded me of the ice cream we used to get at a peach stand in Stonewall, TX. I plan on having some friends over for dinner one of these nights, and make some ice cream for dessert… I can’t wait!
Now I want to know… What would you add to this list?

These are great tips. Been to the beach already and it felt so good even though the water was still cold . I’m planning to make some home made banana ice cream.
Nice day
Michelle
My mother in law made some homemade banana ice cream this weekend! So good :)
These are great tips. I haven’t made ice cream in so long.
Thanks Leelee! I try not to eat it much (because I LOVE it), but it’s so worth it when I do.
Great list! I’d love to try making homemade ice cream this year!

Thanks Nellwyn! It’s so easy to make… it just takes a while and is noisy haha! Let me know if you make some :)
What a fun list! I love watching/catching fireflies in the summer and they are EVERYWHERE right now! :)
Ahh I can’t wait to go look for some. I heard on the radio, thought, that their numbers get lower and lower every year. Makes me so sad!
I love this list, making homemade ice cream is my favorite!
Mine too! I can’t wait to make some next week :)
I love this list! I want to get outside more with a book and iced coffee or tea. :)
So do I! Too bad it’s WAY too hot to really enjoy that right now. I love reading by the pool!
nice to meet a fellow texas blogger :) i would love to have picnic by the lake..and have movie night.
Same here! I love those long, lazy summer evenings :)
Such a sweet list–funny, I wrote something similar this morning, too!! :) love this time of year and all the things on your list, especially beaches and ice cream and evening walks.
How funny! Great minds think alike, I guess :)
Love your list! Has all of the summer classics on there! Even as a grown adult I still love catching fireflies. We don’t live where they are, but we’ll be visiting family that have them in just a few weeks. I can’t wait! ;)
Thank you Allie! I know you’ll have a blast catching them :)
All great ideas! I like movie nights at the drive-in theater. So much fun to get the lawn chairs out and hang out under the stars!
That sounds like so much fun!! I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time now. Maybe some night soon we can get some friends together to go to an outdoor movie :)
These are good ideas!! I would add going to the drive-in, going to foodie events like a food festival, going to a baseball game, or even a music festival!
Those sound like so much fun!! I love baseball games too, especially when we get $1 hotdogs. That’s the only time I ever eat them haha!
Thank you Liz!
