I'm Becca - mom to three cute kiddos, professional photographer, chocolate addict, in love with all thing wildflowers, and (most importantly) a sinner saved by grace through faith!
Get to know me with these ten things I bet you didn’t know about me! And then leave me one thing about you in the comments.
I’ve had Happily the Hicks for about nine months now, and just realized that I never really introduced myself to y’all! You can read a little about me and Isaac on our Meet the Hicks page, but I thought it would be fun to finally share some more interesting things about myself. If you’ve been reading here for a while, you know that I love whipping up recipes in the kitchen, playing with Lillie, painting for my Etsy shop, and that I teach third grade. But now I decided it’s time to share things some things that you probably don’t know about me.
I hope you have fun reading this! If you have any questions or something you would like to know more about me, let me know in the comments below.
10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me
If I could choose any other career, I would be a photographer.
I’ve always wanted to learn how to take professional photos, and maybe someday in the future I’ll be able to take some classes. For now I’m taking Megan Weaver’s online class and it’s awesome! Perfect for bloggers wanting to take better pictures.
I grew up in South America, where I became fluent in Spanish.
I lived in Chile for 6 years and Ecuador for 2 years. My parents were missionaries, and the time we spent down there was amazing. I wouldn’t change my childhood for anything in the world. And I am so happy to be able to use my Spanish in my job!
I used to hate running!
It’s true… In middle school I begged to be the goalie when we played field hockey, and did shot put and javelin in order to avoid any running events. But then in 9th grade we had to run a cross country race, and that’s what got me hooked on running. Since then, it has become such a big part of my life, I couldn’t imagine not running.
My favorite Christmas movie is White Christmas, and my favorite Disney movie is Frozen.
It’s not Christmas without White Christmas, and my family and I can almost quote the entire movie. I don’t care how much Isaac doesn’t like it, I will watch it every single December. As for Frozen, it always puts me in a good mood, and my sisters and I have so much fun singing the songs to each other.
You may already know this, but in case you didn’t, I have a very large family.
I have two brothers and three sisters, and I love it! They taught me how to share, love unconditionally and travel with a big group of people. My family is loud, laughs a lot and makes silly of jokes, and I wouldn’t wish it any other way.
When I’m stressed out, I either clean the entire apartment or drown myself in chocolate.
So if you walk in on me crazily dusting or sweeping in the middle of the week, it probably wasn’t the best day I’ve ever had. And there’s a reason I try not to keep a lot of chocolate in the apartment… because it will be gone in days!
When I binge watch TV shows on Netflix, it affects the way I talk, and I dream about the people in the show.
In fact, when I was super into 19 Kids and Counting, I had dreams that I got to meet them, and we spent all day together, or that my family had their own TV show. And when I watch Harry Potter, the voice in my head likes to talk with a British accent.
My favorite food of all time is pizza.
If I could live off one thing for the rest of my life, I would choose pizza. There are so many varieties, it’s great hot or cold, and who doesn’t like a slice piled high with cheese, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and bell peppers?
I talk to Lillie like she’s a real person and understands me.
I can hold lengthy conversations with Lillie, where we talk about life, how her day went, what her favorite sleeping position is and even the cute dog she played with at the dog park. She’s not much of a talker, but she is a great listener!
I have been to Hobby Lobby so many times, 9 times out of 10 I can direct you to the correct aisle.
When I first started my painting business, I was in Hobby Lobby all the time. It’s become one of my favorite places to be, and I can spend hours there, wandering the aisles, looking at the decor and digging through the clearance items. It’s my happy place, and it’s a rare, rare occasion when I leave without buying something!
Now it’s your turn to tell me something interesting about yourself! I’d love to get to know you more.
I also want to be a photographer…. so maybe one day that will happen! Fingers crossed! I still do NOT like running, but glad its become a high point in yours! :)
I am with you on the pizza, running, talking to your dog, and your stressed out coping. ;) Chocolate all day, please. I also find cleaning very therapeutic and a clean house helps relieve anxiety.
Man Netflix is such a time sucker for me. I have it going while I work on my computer, craft or cook, and before I know it the question of shame “Are you still watching?” pops up. I just sigh and press “yes”, thinking “well… I have nothing better to do…” hahaha.
I can relate in so many ways! Although, I’m a little weirder because I talk to my Chihuahua Carlo when he’s not around. Usually, I see another dog and declare: Carlo, I love you. lol.
Oh my gosh, I wish I cleaned when I was stressed out, lol. I bet that’s actually a great way to release the stress, and you’re being so productive at the same time! :) And White Christmas is probably my favorite holiday movie also!
Yes!! I LOVE speaking in Spanish. I actually teach in a dual language program and speak in Spanish about 80% of the time I’m at school. I love it! I didn’t know you knew Spanish either! So cool. :)
Thanks for dropping by Jessica! It’s nice to meet you too :) And giiirl… Netflix is like my kryptonite. I turn it on and get so into a series, I can’t turn it off.

I understand running is not for everyone! Some days I question why I like it haha. And I hope so too, girl! Photography is SO fun.
When I’m stressed out I clean too – good use of that energy, right? haha :)
That’s right!! I think it’s just my way to micromanage SOMETHING in my life haha!
Great to know you a little better! I would want to be a photographer too!
Awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed the read.
I used to HATE running too! I’m so glad I changed my mind! Also…White Christmas (!!!), I knew I liked you! ;)
YES!! White Christmas is the BOMB. I love that movie so much. I knew I liked you too ;);)
I am with you on the pizza, running, talking to your dog, and your stressed out coping. ;) Chocolate all day, please. I also find cleaning very therapeutic and a clean house helps relieve anxiety.
It’s crazy how alike we are! And I’m glad you understand… Sometimes I think my husband believes I’m just the crazy person he lives with haha!
Love this! I talk to my dog too like she understands…totally normal ;) I’ve never seen White Christmas! I know it’s horrible..maybe this year!
YOU NEED TO. It’s on Netflix, and I WILL be watching as soon as Thanksgiving is over. It’s such a great classic!
That is so awesome that you got to live in South America as a kid!
I think so too! It was such a great experience!
i love posts such as this..i am same way with stress and cleaning….talking to your fur baby is totally normal, no? YAS to pizza!!!
I’m glad you don’t think I’m crazy! Sometimes I question my own sanity, between the cleaning and talking to my dog ;)
Wow, since we just met, I knew NONE of these things about you! Thanks so much for giving me so much more to ask you about next time we talk! :)
Totally!! And next time it’s your turn to tell me all about you! :)
I am also a stress cleaner. It’s something that I can have control over when things are happening that I have no control over. ;)
YES!! That is exactly why I stress clean. I can actually control SOMETHING in my life haha!
haha I can totally relate to Netflix. ;)

Great post!
Thanks Stacy! Thanks for stopping by.

Hahaha that’s hilarious!! It just shows how much you love your sweet fur baby.
Hey there! I love pizza, too! And I’m a missionary kid as well! So fun to “meet” a fellow Adult TCK!
No way! That’s so cool!! Nice to meet you too :)
Love this! I’m also a stress cleaner and get waaay too caught up in shows when I binge watch them-haha. So neat learning more about you here!
Thanks Cara! And I’m glad you’re with me on the cleaning and binge watching… Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only person who does those things haha!
So fun! I’m totally with you on #6! I don’t know how I became a stress cleaner, but I guess it could be worse!
SO true!! That’s what I think to myself as I run around the apartment picking up stuff and cleaning, “I guess it could be worse…” ;)
Oh my gosh, I wish I cleaned when I was stressed out, lol. I bet that’s actually a great way to release the stress, and you’re being so productive at the same time! :) And White Christmas is probably my favorite holiday movie also!
Yay!! Another White Christmas lover! That is seriously the best movie ever. I can’t wait to watch it :)

I clean out out of boredom. If I’m stressed, I sleep. And give me all the pizza!
Sleeping is my second option when I’m stressed. Because sometimes cleaning just won’t cut it!
